guerra

A band called Fosforo, a “punk reggae jungle” trio that “code switches between English and Spanish like true Angelenos,” was playing at MacArthur park when the anonymous LAPD troops started kicking ass. What song were they playing? What else, “War” by Bob Marley:

That until there are no longer first class
And second class citizens of any nation
Until the color of a man’s skin
Is of no more significance than the color of his eyes
Me say war
That until the basic human rights are equally
Guaranteed to all, without regard to race
Dis a war

or

Thursday the 17th* folks are gathering again at MacArthur for a “Take Back The Park” rally. So everybody: bring a picnic blanket, a video camera, and a bulletproof vest!

Note: I know there’s limited benefit at this point in underlining the absurdity of Fox News, but still, I must… Fox had this incredible video of the May Day clashes in LA, which is pretty damning for the cops, so what do they do? They lessen the sting of the footage by saying the cops started firing rubber bullets into the crowd “when an illegal immigration rally got out of hand.” That’s how they introduce the footage. Check it out. What exactly was illegal and what was out of hand at MacArthur park? It’s like 24/7 Alberto Gonzales testimony over there at Fox: They just say stuff without a care in the world for what it means.
