"“I think it’s really important not to lump in moderate or, you know, the average Muslim—conservative, liberal, it doesn’t really matter—with the rational, peaceful Muslims,” said Matt Donnellan, the Vice-Charmain of the College Republicans at the University of San Diego, after the speech."

For the record I was saying it is important not to lump in all Muslims, liberal, conservative, or moderate, with extreme terror groups. I just wanted to make that clear because the quote could be taken the wrong way.

I don’t really begrudge the press for covering Coulter because she does command a significant audience. What really scares me is the fact that she does command a large audience. I wonder if people listen to her half-believing, more out of rebellion against some views of the left that they disagree with, because she can stick it to the left hard, or whether most of her followers actually think as she does (or as she pretends to?) . I would like to think it’s the former, which would mean somebody the likes of her could never seriously run for office. Then again, you have incendiaries like Ahmadinejad who have (or had) popular domestic support and made it to a top office. The German people largely followed Hitler for a long time – until he started losing. I would have thought that this would not be possible in the Internet era because of all the information available, but it seems not to be the case. For every bit of information there is misinformation, it seems, and most people seek out only what they already believe. This phenomen is what scares me most.

Carlos - I will be the first to admit that I struggled with that very dilemma when writing the piece. By writing a piece like this, am I going to change anyone’s mind on either side of the fence regarding Ms. Coulter? Or am I just regurgitating her sound-bytes in varied forms, giving her that much more valuable real-estate on Google search results? Am I spreading her hate-filled gospel from a room of 230 people to a planet of billions, all while helping her books climb the best-seller charts?

I must defer to the age-old view of the press as an adversarial, authoritative watch-dog. Whether or not she is an authority based on knowledge is irrelevant - she has been anointed as one by those who feel that she “speaks the truth” where others are afraid to.

In this respect, the media can only continue to provide as much rational context to her ludicrous remarks as possible, consistently offering the public enough perspective to (hopefully) see beneath the paper-thin veneer of truth she maintains.

Yeah, she's an incendiary, no doubt about it, but why do so many people pay attention to her drivel. (Why is she the subject of this article?) That's actually more scary to me than what she says.

Honestly there is only one word that comes to mind when i think of this woman and it starts with a c and rhymes with blunt... She is the exact blinders-on American who fails to realize that centuries of Arab exploitation has contributed to the current state of affairs. Just look at her, with her views do you take her for knowledgeable person on world affairs. Her idea of international exposure is probably sleeping with three different guys from three different cities in England.

Ann Coulter is an even bigger media whore than Britney Spears, and much like the tragic pop princess, represents most of what the rest of the world might despise about this country. It is sad that she has such a loud voice, and that so many people pay attention to her.
