The wii (and johnny lee) is taking over

I’m not sure that even the most optimistic of Nintendo executives could have predicted how wildly successful their little console has been since its launch. Similarly, I’d be impressed if the hardware developers had any notion how many ways people would find to use a hacked Wii-remote.

Case in point: Johnny Lee, a Carnegie Mellon student, has come up with an absolutely ingenious way to create genuine 3D perspective shifts when viewing a 2D flat-panel TV using a Wii, a laptop, some home-brewed software, and a MacGyver-rigged pair of hardware-store safety glasses.

Every time I start to think that I may be a somewhat intelligent human being, I see something like this and my ego deflates like Michael Jackson’s nose in the Abu Dhabi sun. This guy has over 2.7 million views so far. I have to assume that someone at Nintendo has seen this and is hard at work stealing his idea.

The real dig? Check out the dude’s website: he’s actually a really solid photographer as well. Damn!
