Word to the Pundits: Thanks for Nothing!

As Senator Joe Biden of Delaware energetically made his way onto the stage Saturday, his gait somewhere between a power-walk and a jog, only seconds separated him from history. Today would be his grand debut as Barack Obama’s running mate. Speculation climaxed late Friday, as analysts, pundits and strategists wondered out loud what a Biden pick would mean.

—How would the newest addition to the Obama juggernaut supplement the candidate?

—How would he detract?

—Would he be a friendly uncle, spreading good faith and wise advice along the campaign trail, or would be a vicious attack dog, willing to wrestle in the dirt with the likes of snotty McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds?

A few hours after the speech, I was no closer to the answers to these questions, and it’s not because I hadn’t been watching. In fact, I was been glued to an office chair since the speech’s conclusion, my eyes darting back and forth between MSNBC on TV and Politico.com online. Here’s what I gathered from watching the pundit coverage so far:

—Barack Obama stuttered at one point in the speech, forgetting the word “vice” as he introduced Senator Biden and then immediately correcting himself.

—Joe Biden almost called Barack Obama Barack America, but didn’t really.

—Broadcast journalists think Biden looks pretty goofy when he runs, and advise that he not do it again (I’m sure Richard Simmons strongly disagrees).

—Joe Biden wasn’t praising Obama during the early Democratic primary debates, during which they were political opponents (scandalous).

—And this just is: Politico’s Ben Smith has discovered that Obama’s new logo will include Joe Biden.

Absolutely riveting. It’s a good thing America’s journalists are here to aid us in this crucial analysis. Maybe that other stuff about foreign policy credentials will be on MSNBC after Lockup.
