Soapbox: McCain Wags the Dog

John McCain, faced with the impending beatdown likely to come from his first debate Friday, which would most certainly focus on the tanking economy—something he has admitted he knows nothing about—has called off his campaign so he can focus on the issues.

blog it

Excuse me while I throw up.

This is a classic skeevy move pulled from the politician playbook. By holding a press conference and putting exclamatory emphasis on an event that’s pretty mundane, McCain is diverting attention from a very real economic crisis. Does anyone remember those “Homeland Security Alerts”? Yeah, didn’t think so. Who wants to be bet we’ll see one from the Bush administration in the next two months, raise your hand?

Question: Why does he have to hold a press conference to say that he’s going focus on the economy? Can’t he just go back to work for a few days and work on it and deal with the debate like the medal-decorated war hero he is, or at the very least, like a man? (Note to McCain: Hillary Clinton would like to lend you her balls.)

Answer: Because it wouldn’t divert the attention from Barack Obama, who, after a few weeks being down in the polling dumps, is now back up again.

And we all know, playing it fair and clean, to quote Dana Carvey-as-Bush 1, “that wouldn’t be prudent.”

I just saw the slogan on McCain’s podium and id like to take a minute to analyse it’s relation to his campaign and ability.

    1. Reform. Now presumably he is referring to the financial services and general bureaucracy of Washington. The one area where he admits he has no real knowledge or ability and Gov. Sarah Palin doesnt exactly add much to the ticket in this area.

    2. Prosperity. To talk of prosperity in a time of massive financial insecurity and a looming recession is either delusions of grandeur brought on by his utter detachment financially from the real world or complete economic ignorance.

    3. Peace. ?????? Correct me if i am mis-informed but was it not John McCain who pledged to remain in Iraq even if it took 100years and that he would follow Osama Bin Laden to the gates of hell when in actual fact he is not prepared to follow him into the tribal regions of Pakistan where many believe he is hiding.

I think i can work out what has happened here, Karl Rove has obviously been versing the presidential candidate in Orwellian doublespeak when his actual slogan is Ignorance, Poverty, War

Perhaps im looking into this too far….
