Music Roundup: Festivals, Release Dates, and Myspace (oh my!)
If you are in the area, don’t miss out on Saturday’s We The People Festival at the Los Angeles Historic Park. The lineup includes Les Claypool from Primus, Rza of Wu-Tang Clan, Murs from Living Legends, Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine, and Shavo Odidjian from System of a Down. Like the title implies, the event is politically-minded. Purchase tix and see the whole lineup here.
Ben Folds releases his new solo album Way to Normal September 30. The singer-songwriter is currently on tour and will be in New York 9/30 and 10/1; Chicago 10/10; San Francisco 11/13; and Los Angeles 11/14. Check out his album and the rest of his tour dates here.
Pop-punk quintet Anberlin is back with their fourth studio release New Surrender, which drops September 30. See them on tour in Orlando 9/27; San Francisco 10/14; Los Angeles 10/15; and New York 10/29. You can stream their full album and check the other dates here.
English electro band Robots in Disguise released their latest single “The Tears” this week with a freakishly awesome music video. The video features The Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding and is based on a French story involving a love triangle. Their latest album We’re In The Music Biz is in stores now.
Myspace Music is now a one-stop shop for all things music: merchandise, downloads, concert tickets, and (my fav) full-length album streaming prior to release dates. They have relaunched their site in collaboration with major labels (SONY BMG, Universal, Warner Music group) to allow artists to promote more of their content through their profiles.
And finally, camera shatterer Kanye West pulled the unbelievable and moved up his album release date from December 16 to “November something.” Maybe he’s setting another trend for the rap game, or is he just getting ahead of himself? The album, 808s and Heartbreak, is gaining much buzz for its first single “Love Lockdown,” which has already sold more than 200,000 on iTunes.
