		<description>Well, it looks like the initial response is simply &quot;more of the same.&quot;  The Republicans will have to decide whether their party will tolerate a platform of principles that includes a diversity of views regarding policy direction, or whether they will continue to insist on the &quot;cultural&quot; saliency of a set of values that is undistinguishable from a narrowly tailored legislative agenda.

Republicans may never become &quot;Big Tent,&quot; and perhaps justifiably so, but they would be wise to discover areas of common interest with non-traditional constituencies.  If they retreat to more of the same, they will successfully maintain political purity, but at the expense of political relevance.
